💧 Watering
This fern loves consistency and should never be allowed to dry out completely. Because of Malta’s low indoor humidity in summer, aim to keep the soil evenly moist and consider placing it on a pebble tray.
☀️ Light
Thrives in medium to bright indirect light but must be shielded from the intense Maltese sun. A spot in a bright bathroom or a north-facing room is perfect to prevent the thin fronds from crisping.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features long, arching fronds with a distinctive pale green hue and a graceful, airy habit. It is a moderate grower that stays relatively compact, making it ideal for decorative tabletops or hanging baskets.
🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a moisture-retentive yet well-draining medium, such as a mix of potting soil and peat moss or coco coir. Adding a bit of perlite helps prevent the soil from becoming compacted and waterlogged.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a weak, half-strength liquid fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer. Be cautious with Maltese tap water; using harvested rainwater or filtered water helps prevent leaf tip burn from mineral salts.
✔🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Like most members of the Pteris family, it is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. It is a safe, lush addition to homes with curious pets.
However, be advised that the consumption of any plant material may cause vomiting and gastrointestinal upset for dogs and cats. Sherries will not be held accountable to any symptom. If you believe that your animal is ill or may have ingested a poisonous substance, please contact a vet immediately.
