Description
Diospyros kaki ‘Sharon’ is a deciduous fruit tree prized for its sweet, orange persimmons, commonly known as Sharon fruit. Its attractive foliage, autumn colours and delicious fruit make it a lovely addition to Maltese gardens.
💧 Watering
Water regularly while establishing. Deep watering is important during Malta’s hot summers, especially when the tree is developing fruit.
☀️ Light
Thrives in full sun. Choose a warm, sheltered position with good airflow for healthy growth and fruit production.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Produces glossy green leaves that turn yellow and orange in autumn. The tree loses its leaves in winter and produces sweet, orange fruit, usually ripening in autumn.
🪴 Potting Mix
Prefers fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
🌿 Fertilizer
Apply a balanced fruit tree fertilizer in spring. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage leafy growth instead of fruiting.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Ripe persimmon flesh is generally safe for cats and dogs in small amounts. Keep seeds, leaves and unripe fruit away from pets, as they may cause digestive problems.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Primarily valued for its edible fruit, attractive foliage and ornamental appeal rather than specific air-purifying properties.
