Description
The Philodendron ‘Sunlight’ (sometimes called Philodendron ‘Golden Sunlight’) is a bright, variegated variety with yellow to chartreuse foliage that really pops in a collection. It’s a bit more light-demanding than deep green Philodendrons but otherwise has very similar needs.
Here are some care tips:
🌱 Light
Needs bright, indirect light to maintain its golden-yellow variegation.
Too little light → leaves may revert to greener shades.
Too much direct sun → leaf scorch or crispy edges.
💧 Water
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry.
Keep slightly moist but never soggy—root rot is the biggest risk.
In winter, let the soil dry a little more between waterings.
🪴 Soil
Use a loose, well-draining aroid mix.
Example: equal parts coco coir/peat, perlite, and orchid bark, with a bit of worm castings for nutrients.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Prefers 65–80°F (18–27°C).
Don’t let temps drop below 55°F (13°C).
Enjoys medium to high humidity (50–70%).
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer.
Less or no fertilizer in fall/winter when growth slows.
✂️ Pruning & Support
Remove any yellowed or damaged leaves to keep it tidy.
Can be grown as a bushy plant or trained to climb a moss pole.
🪲 Pests & Problems
Watch for mealybugs, spider mites, and aphids.
Crispy leaf edges → usually too much sun or low humidity.
Pale new leaves → may need more light or a bit of fertilizer.
✅ Quick tip: Since ‘Sunlight’ has yellow variegation, it can’t photosynthesize as efficiently as darker green Philodendrons—so it needs more light than average to stay healthy.
