Description
Pachycereus pringlei, commonly known as the Mexican Giant Cardón or Elephant Cactus, is the tallest cactus species in the world. Native to the arid landscapes of northwestern Mexico, it can reach massive heights of over 19 metres (63 feet) and live for several hundred years.
If you’re growing one at home, follow these essential care tips:
Light: Requires full sun. If kept indoors, place it in the brightest possible window.
Water: Very drought-tolerant. Only water when the soil is completely bone dry. Avoid watering entirely during the winter.
Soil: Use a gritty, well-draining cactus mix. A terracotta pot is ideal to help moisture evaporate.
Temperature: Prefers warmth and low humidity. It can tolerate brief cold spells but should be protected from freezing temperatures.
