Description

💧 Watering
Water regularly while the plant is establishing, then allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, Dichondra is drought-tolerant and handles Malta’s dry summers well. Container and hanging-basket plants will need more frequent watering during very hot weather, but avoid keeping the soil constantly wet.

☀️ Light
Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Plenty of direct sunlight encourages compact growth and the best silver foliage colour. It tolerates Malta’s strong summer sun well, although container-grown plants may appreciate some protection during exceptionally hot conditions.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
This low-growing, spreading plant produces small, rounded silver-grey leaves along long trailing stems. It can form an attractive groundcover or cascade beautifully over the edges of pots and hanging baskets. Trim long stems whenever necessary to maintain a fuller, more compact shape.

🪴 Potting Mix
Plant in a light, well-draining potting mix or garden soil. Adding perlite, grit, or coarse sand can improve drainage, particularly when growing in containers. Avoid heavy soils that remain wet for long periods.

🌿 Fertilizer
Dichondra has relatively low feeding requirements. Apply a balanced fertilizer in spring and feed lightly every 4–6 weeks during the main growing season if grown in containers. Avoid excessive fertilizer, which can encourage overly soft or leggy growth.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety**
Dichondra argentea is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. As with other ornamental plants, it is still best to discourage pets from eating large quantities of foliage.

🌬️ Air Purifying
Dichondra is primarily valued as an ornamental outdoor plant rather than for specific air-purifying qualities. Its dense, spreading foliage makes it particularly useful for adding greenery, covering bare soil, and creating attractive cascading displays.
