Description
Extremely beautiful, with distinctive, strongly fragrant blooms
An exceptionally beautiful rose with distinctive neat, flat blooms. Each bloom is a lovely soft pink, the smaller central petals deepening to rich apricot and surrounding deep-set stamens. The strong Tea scent becomes more Old Rose, with delicious hints of lemon and grapefruit. It forms a bushy shrub with strong, healthy, upright growth. Named for the Brontë Society to celebrate the bicentenary of the novelist’s birth.
1. Choosing the Right Spot
Sunlight: Roses need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.
Soil: They prefer well-draining, slightly acidic soil with a pH of 6.0 to 6.5.
Air Circulation: Avoid crowded spots; good airflow helps prevent fungal issues.
2. Preparing the Soil
Digging: Dig a hole about 45 cm wide and deep, allowing roots to spread.
Soil Mix: Add compost or well-rotted manure for nutrients and to improve drainage.
Watering: Moisten the soil before planting to keep it soft and hydrated.
3. Planting Process
Spacing: Space bushes about 60-90 cm apart, depending on the rose type.
Planting Depth: Bury the plant so the bud union (where the rose was grafted) sits just above soil level in warmer climates and about 2.5 cm below in colder areas.
Watering: Water thoroughly after planting, ensuring the soil is evenly moist.
4. Aftercare Tips
Watering: Roses need regular watering, about 2-3 times a week, but let the soil dry slightly between waterings.
Fertilizing: Start fertilizing about 3-4 weeks after planting, and continue feeding every month during the growing season.
Pruning: Prune in late winter to early spring for healthy growth and blooming.
5. Common Pests & Diseases
Aphids & Spider Mites: Use insecticidal soap or a mild spray if necessary.
Black Spot & Powdery Mildew: Ensure good airflow around the plant, and use fungicides if needed.
