💧 Watering
Papyrus loves water and should never be allowed to dry out completely. Keep the soil consistently wet; pots can even stand in a shallow tray or container of water. During Malta’s hot, dry summers, check water levels frequently as moisture can evaporate very quickly.

☀️ Light
Thrives in full sun to partial shade. In Malta, it performs well in a sunny position provided it has constant access to water. Some light afternoon shade can be beneficial for container-grown plants in exceptionally hot, exposed locations.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
Papyrus is a fast-growing, clump-forming plant that produces tall, upright stems topped with distinctive sprays of fine green foliage. Under favourable conditions it can become a large statement plant, so provide plenty of space. Remove old, yellow, or damaged stems from the base to maintain a fresh appearance.

🪴 Potting Mix
Use a rich, moisture-retentive potting mix containing plenty of organic matter. Unlike most plants, Papyrus does not require freely draining soil and is perfectly adapted to consistently wet or even waterlogged conditions.

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer, particularly when grown in containers. Plants growing in nutrient-rich pond margins may require less frequent feeding.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety**
Cyperus papyrus is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. However, pets should still be discouraged from chewing large quantities of the foliage, which could cause digestive upset.

🌬️ Air Purifying
Papyrus is primarily grown as an ornamental outdoor or aquatic plant rather than for indoor air purification. When incorporated into ponds and water gardens, its extensive root system can help absorb excess nutrients from the water while its dense growth provides useful habitat around the water’s edge.
