Description
Cortaderia selloana ‘Rosea’ is a striking ornamental grass admired for its tall, feathery pinkish plumes and graceful, arching foliage. Its impressive size and elegant appearance make it an attractive feature for spacious gardens and landscaping.
💧 Watering
Water regularly while establishing. Once mature, it tolerates dry conditions but benefits from occasional deep watering during Malta’s hottest months.
☀️ Light
Thrives in full sun, ideally receiving at least 6 hours daily. Well suited to Malta’s sunny Mediterranean climate.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Forms large, dense clumps of long, narrow green leaves with sharp edges. Produces tall, soft pink to silvery-pink flower plumes from late summer into autumn.
🪴 Potting Mix
Prefers well-draining soil and tolerates sandy, moderately poor and limestone-rich soils. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
🌿 Fertilizer
Generally requires little feeding. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in spring if growth is weak.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. However, the sharp leaf edges can cause cuts or irritation, so keep pets away from dense clumps.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Primarily valued for its ornamental plumes, architectural foliage and ability to provide shelter for wildlife rather than specific air-purifying properties.
