Description

💧 Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist during the active growing season (spring and summer). Like many tropical vines, it hates sitting in stagnant water, so ensure your pot has excellent drainage. Reduce watering in the winter, keeping the soil barely damp, as the plant enters a semi-dormant state.

☀️ Light
It thrives in bright, indirect light. While it needs plenty of light to produce those signature blooms, it must be protected from the harsh, direct Maltese afternoon sun, which will yellow the leaves and burn the delicate flowers. A spot with morning sun and filtered afternoon light is ideal.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features thick, glossy, dark green, oval-shaped leaves that look beautiful even when the plant is not in bloom. It is a slow-to-moderate climber that will need a trellis or a circular wire hoop for support. It is a classic “wall-climber” that adds an elegant, vertical element to a patio.

🪴 Potting Mix
Needs a rich, well-draining, slightly acidic soil. A mix of peat-based potting compost mixed with a little perlite or orchid bark works very well to provide the necessary aeration for its sensitive roots.

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a balanced, high-potassium liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the flowering period to support the production of those heavily scented blossoms. Avoid over-feeding in late autumn to allow the plant to harden off for the winter.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Stephanotis is considered non-toxic to dogs and cats, making it one of the few highly fragrant flowering vines that you can keep in a home with pets without major worry.**

🌬️ Air Purifying
Beyond its natural “air freshening” capabilities, the Stephanotis is excellent at absorbing toxins and producing fresh oxygen. Its dense foliage is effective at filtering pollutants in semi-enclosed spaces like covered balconies or conservatories.
