Description

💧 Watering
Like most Pothos relatives, it is quite forgiving. Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry. In Malta’s humid winter, it can go much longer between drinks. If the leaves start to droop or curl slightly, that’s the plant’s way of telling you it’s thirsty. Avoid overwatering, as it is prone to root rot if the soil remains soggy.

☀️ Light
It thrives in bright, indirect light. While it is famous for being “low-light tolerant,” its neon-yellow color will slowly fade to a duller green if it’s kept in too much shade. Avoid direct, hot Maltese afternoon sun, as the thin, brightly colored leaves can scorch and develop unsightly brown spots.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features heart-shaped leaves with a smooth, waxy texture. It is a fast-growing trailer that looks stunning in a hanging basket or cascading down from a high shelf. If you want larger leaves, you can provide it with a moss pole to climb, as it naturally produces larger foliage when growing vertically.

🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a standard, well-draining houseplant mix. A blend of peat (or coco coir) and perlite is ideal to ensure the roots get plenty of oxygen. It’s a very adaptable plant and isn’t particularly fussy about the pH of the soil.

🌿 Fertilizer
Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer at half-strength every 4–6 weeks during the spring and summer. There is no need to fertilize during the winter months when the plant’s growth naturally slows down.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety
The Neon Queen is toxic to dogs and cats. Like all Pothos, it contains calcium oxalate crystals, which cause immediate mouth irritation, swelling, and drooling if chewed. Because it is a trailing plant, it is best kept in a hanging basket or on a high cabinet out of reach of curious pets.

🌬️ Air Purifying
It is a top-tier air purifier! It is particularly effective at removing common indoor toxins like formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon monoxide. Its fast growth rate means it’s constantly working to refresh the air in your home.
