Description

☀️ Light
Full sun. They need at least 6 hours of direct light to keep their stems strong. If they don’t get enough sun, the stems will flop over.

💧 Watering
Moderate. Water at the base when the top of the soil feels dry. Avoid wetting the leaves, as Carnations are prone to fungal spots in Malta’s humid air.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
They have bluish-grey, grass-like foliage. Depending on the variety, they can be “Border Carnations” (shorter) or “Standard” (tall ones used for bouquets).

🪴 Potting Mix
They love alkaline soil. Malta’s natural soil is perfect. If using a pot, ensure it drains very well; they hate “wet feet.”

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks during the spring. Avoid high-nitrogen feeds, or you’ll get lots of leaves but no flowers.

❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Mildly Toxic. Can cause gastrointestinal upset or skin redness in cats and dogs.
