Description
💧 Watering
Keep soil consistently moist, water 2–3 times per week in summer.
Never allow the soil to completely dry out, but avoid waterlogging.
Use rainwater or filtered water if possible. Maltese tap water is often too alkaline.
☀️ Sunlight
Prefers full sun to light shade (at least 6 hours of sunlight daily).
In Malta, provide some afternoon shade in peak summer to prevent leaf scorch.
🍃 Foliage / 🌸 Flowering / 🍇 Fruiting
Deciduous shrub with green leaves turning red-orange in autumn.
Produces clusters of small white flowers in spring, followed by sweet blue berries in early–mid summer.
Excellent both ornamental and edible plant.
🪴 Potting Mix
Requires acidic soil (pH 4.5–5.5).
Use an ericaceous compost mixed with pine bark and perlite for good drainage.
Ideal for container growing in Malta; use a 19–25 cm pot with drainage holes.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring–summer with an acid-loving plant fertilizer (e.g., azalea/rhododendron feed).
Stop feeding after August.
