Description

💧 Watering
Water regularly during its first year to establish a deep, resilient root system. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant and can easily survive on natural rainfall alone. For container-grown specimens, water deeply only when the soil has completely dried out.

☀️ Light
It demands absolute full, direct sunlight. This plant loves heat and will thrive in the most exposed, baking positions imaginable. It cannot tolerate shade, which causes sparse growth and poor flowering.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
It features tiny, scale-like, grey-green leaves that resemble cypress foliage, sitting on slender, reddish stems. It has a loose, open, and graceful weeping habit. It can grow rapidly; prune it back hard in late winter or early spring to maintain a dense shape and encourage abundant new flowering wood.

🪴 Potting Mix
Virtually indestructible when it comes to soil. It thrives in poor, sandy, gritty, or even highly saline (salty) soils. It is perfectly adapted to Malta’s alkaline limestone earth. The only strict requirement is that the soil must not be waterlogged; sharp drainage is essential.

🌿 Fertilizer
Generally requires no fertilizer at all. Feeding it too much can actually cause weak, floppy growth. If planted in exceptionally barren soil or a container, a very light application of balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring is plenty.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety**
It is considered non-toxic to dogs and cats. It is a very safe option for exposed garden borders, coastal properties, or open fields where pets roam freely.

🌬️ Air Purifying
An absolute champion at acting as a windbreak and coastal stabilizer. It is highly resistant to salt spray and heavy coastal gales, secreting excess salt through its leaves. Its deep root system is fantastic at securing loose, sandy coastal soil.
