Description

💧 Watering
Water once or twice a week during spring–summer.
Allow the top 3–5 cm of soil to dry before watering again.
Reduce watering in winter, keep soil just slightly moist.

Prefers full sun to bright light for best flowering.
In Malta, thrives outdoors in sunny spots or indoors near bright windows.
Can tolerate partial shade, but blooms less.

🍃 Foliage / 🌸 Flowering
Evergreen perennial with broad, banana-like leaves.
Produces striking orange and blue bird-shaped flowers from late winter through spring, and often again in autumn.
Long-lived and flowers more abundantly with age.

🪴 Potting Mix
Well-draining loam or sandy mix with compost for nutrition.
Excellent drainage is essential to prevent root rot.

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring–summer with a balanced or bloom-boosting fertilizer.
Stop feeding in winter.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Mildly toxic if ingested. Can cause stomach upset in cats and dogs. Keep out of reach of pets.

🌿 Additional Notes
Extremely sun- and drought-tolerant once established; ideal for Maltese gardens.
