Description
Sir Elyan F1 Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a highly productive Italian-style San Marzano hybrid known for its elongated, oval-shaped fruits, bright red colour and firm, meaty flesh. This vigorous variety produces uniform tomatoes weighing approximately 130–150 g each, with thick walls and excellent flavour.
Perfect for fresh salads, pasta sauces, roasting, soups and traditional Mediterranean dishes, Sir Elyan Tomatoes are particularly valued for their rich flesh and excellent cooking qualities. Their vigorous climbing growth and generous yields make them an excellent choice for home vegetable gardens.
🌱 Growing Instructions
☀️ Sunlight: Requires full sun, with at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Provide some protection from extreme afternoon heat during Malta’s hottest summer days.
💧 Watering: Water deeply and regularly, keeping soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water at the base of the plant to keep foliage dry.
🌱 Soil: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost or well-rotted manure.
🌡️ Temperature: Grows best between 18°C–30°C. Excessive heat can affect flowering and fruit development.
📏 Spacing: Allow approximately 40–50 cm between plants and provide sturdy stakes or trellises to support climbing growth.
🌾 Fertilizer: Apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer during early growth, switching to a potassium-rich tomato fertilizer once flowering begins. Follow product instructions.
✂️ Harvesting: Harvest when fruits are firm and bright red, or slightly earlier for a firmer salad tomato. Pick regularly to encourage continued production.
🌿 Local Growing Tips (Malta)
Best planting season: March to April for spring planting, with a second planting possible from late August to September under suitable conditions.
Position: Sunny vegetable gardens, raised beds or large containers with sturdy climbing support and good air circulation.
Companion plants: Basil, parsley, onions and marigolds.
Common issue: Blossom end rot can develop when calcium uptake is disrupted by irregular watering. Maintain consistent soil moisture and avoid excessive fertilizer application.
