Description
💧 Watering
Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings, as the thick leaves store some moisture. If the leaves start to look slightly droopy, it’s usually a sign that it’s time for a drink.
☀️ Light
Thrives in very bright, indirect light; too little light will cause the plant to grow leggy and lose its round shape. Rotate the pot weekly so the stem grows straight instead of leaning toward the Maltese sun.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features distinctive bright green, coin-shaped leaves on long, delicate petioles. It is a prolific grower that produces “babies” in the soil, which you can easily propagate and share with friends.
🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a very well-draining potting soil, ideally a peat-free mix with plenty of perlite or grit. This prevents the roots from sitting in water, which is crucial during our humid winter months.
🌿 Fertilizer
Use a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month from spring through autumn. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to salt buildup from our local hard water, causing leaf tip burn.
✔🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Completely non-toxic and pet-friendly! You can safely keep this plant on low tables where cats or dogs might give it a sniff.
However, be advised that the consumption of any plant material may cause vomiting and gastrointestinal upset for dogs and cats. Sherries will not be held accountable to any symptom. If you believe that your animal is ill or may have ingested a poisonous substance, please contact a vet immediately.
🌬️ Air Purifying
While small, its broad leaves are efficient at absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing fresh oxygen. It helps maintain a cleaner atmosphere in smaller rooms or office spaces.
