Philodendron adansonii (commonly called Monstera Adansonii or Swiss Cheese Vine) is a climbing plant famous for its unique perforated leaves. Ideal for indoor trellises, hanging baskets, or shaded patios, it thrives in Malta’s warm, humid spots.

Description

💧 Watering

Water once a week during spring–summer; allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry between waterings.
Reduce watering in winter, keep slightly moist but not soggy.
Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.

☀️ Sunlight

Prefers bright, indirect light.
Avoid direct Maltese sun, leaves can scorch quickly.
Can tolerate lower light, but growth slows and leaves may have fewer perforations.

🍃 Foliage / 🌸 Flowering

Trailing or climbing vine with green, perforated, heart-shaped leaves.
Rarely flowers indoors; prized for foliage and climbing habit.
Excellent for vertical trellises, hanging baskets, or moss poles.

🪴 Potting Mix

Use a well-draining, airy mix; peat, perlite, and orchid bark recommended.
Keep soil slightly moist but not waterlogged.

🌿 Fertilizer

Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring–summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer.
Stop feeding in autumn–winter.
