Description

Perovskia atriplicifolia, now classified as Salvia yangii, is an attractive flowering perennial known for its silvery-grey foliage and delicate lavender-blue flowers. Ideal for sunny borders and Mediterranean-style gardens.

💧 Watering

Water regularly while establishing. Once established, it is drought-tolerant and requires only occasional deep watering during Malta’s hottest months.

☀️ Light

Thrives in full sun. Excellent for Malta’s hot, sunny climate.

🍃 Foliage / Growth

Produces aromatic, finely divided silver-grey leaves and airy spikes of lavender-blue flowers during summer and autumn. Prune back in late winter to encourage fresh growth.

🪴 Potting Mix

Prefers light, sandy, well-draining soil. Tolerates poor and alkaline soils but dislikes waterlogging.

🌿 Fertilizer

Requires minimal feeding. A light application of balanced fertilizer in spring is sufficient.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety

Reliable toxicity information for cats and dogs is limited. Discourage pets from chewing the foliage.

🌬️ Air Purifying

Primarily valued for its ornamental foliage, colourful flowers, and ability to attract pollinators rather than air-purifying properties.
