Enjoy clusters of pure white, strongly fragrant flowers with Narcissus papyraceus ‘Paperwhite’. A lovely choice for garden borders, patio pots or indoor winter displays, these bulbs flower without needing refrigeration before planting.

🪴 Planting Instructions
- When to plant: Autumn, once Malta’s summer heat eases.
- Outdoor planting depth: Set the bulb’s base at approximately three times its height below the soil surface.
- Spacing: Leave at least one bulb’s width between bulbs.
- Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil or potting mix.
- Planting method: Plant pointed end upwards and water in. For indoor displays, use a container with drainage holes and leave the bulb tips just above the compost.
💧 Watering
Keep the growing medium lightly moist while roots, leaves and flowers develop. Avoid standing water, which can cause bulbs to rot. Reduce watering as foliage dies back.
☀️ Light & Position
Outdoors, choose sun or light shade. Indoors, place in bright light away from heaters. Support flower stems if they begin to lean.
🌿 Feeding
No feeding is needed for the first indoor flowering display. For bulbs kept for future seasons, feed after flowering while leaves remain green, following the fertilizer label.
🍃 After Flowering
Remove faded flowers and allow foliage to die back naturally. Soil-grown bulbs can be retained for future seasons, although bulbs grown indoors in water may take time to recover before flowering again.
🇲🇹 Local Growing Tips
Paperwhites suit mild winter conditions and are a useful option for Malta’s gardens. Plant outdoors in a well-drained spot, and avoid keeping dormant bulbs wet through summer. Their strong fragrance is best enjoyed where there is good airflow.

Narcissus is toxic to dogs and cats if eaten, especially the bulbs. Keep plants and loose bulbs out of pets’ reach.
