Description

💧 Watering
Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry, typically every 7–10 days. During the peak Maltese summer, check more often, but ensure the pot drains well to avoid “wet feet” from our local humidity.

☀️ Light
Prefers bright, indirect light; a spot near a north or east-facing window is ideal. Avoid the harsh, direct afternoon sun in Malta, as it will bleach the leaves and cause brown burn spots.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
Famous for its dramatic heart-shaped leaves that develop natural holes (fenestrations) as it matures. It is a vigorous climber that will eventually need a moss pole or sturdy stake for support.

🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a chunky, well-aerating mix to mimic its natural epiphytic habitat. A blend of potting soil, orchid bark, and perlite works best to prevent root rot.

🌿 Fertilizer
Apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season (March to October). Because our tap water is high in lime, an occasional flush with filtered water can help prevent mineral buildup.

❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or swallowed. It is best kept on a stand or out of reach of nibbling pets.
