Description
This cactus is considered relatively easy to maintain if its specific light and water needs are met:
Light: Requires bright, direct sunlight to maintain its tight crested form and vibrant color. Indoors, a south-facing windowsill is ideal.
Watering: Use the “soak and dry” method. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and significantly reduce watering during winter to prevent root rot.
Soil: Must be planted in a gritty, well-draining mineral substrate (e.g., a mix with pumice, perlite, or lava rock).
Temperature: Prefers warm environments (above 20°C/70°F). It is not frost-hardy and should be protected when temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F).
Propagation: Almost exclusively propagated through stem cuttings, as the mutation is rarely passed on through seeds.
