Description
The Marguerite Daisy (Argyranthemum frutescens) is the classic “daisy bush” seen all over Malta. It’s a cheerful, woody perennial that loves our sunny weather but needs a bit of grooming to stay pretty.
☀️ Light
Full sun. It needs lots of light to keep producing flowers. If it’s in the shade, it will get “leggy” (long, thin stems) and stop blooming.
💧 Watering
Moderate. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. In a Maltese summer, it will likely need a drink every day. Don’t let it sit in water, or the roots will rot.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
It grows into a rounded, bushy shrub. The leaves are fern-like and bright green. It can grow quite large (up to 1 meter), so it’s great for large pots or garden borders.
🪴 Potting Mix
Use a well-draining potting soil. It’s not very picky, but it likes a mix that doesn’t stay too heavy or soggy.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a high-potassium liquid fertilizer (like tomato feed) every 2 weeks during spring and summer to keep the daisies coming.
❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Toxic. It can cause skin irritation or stomach upset if eaten by cats or dogs.
