Description

Magnolia grandiflora ‘Little Gem’ is a beautiful compact evergreen tree admired for its glossy, dark green leaves and large, fragrant white flowers. Its elegant appearance and smaller growth habit make it ideal for gardens, patios and ornamental landscaping.

💧 Watering

Water regularly while establishing. Deep watering is important during Malta’s hot summers, especially for young and container-grown plants.

☀️ Light

Thrives in full sun to partial shade. In Malta, a position with morning sun and some protection from intense afternoon heat is beneficial.

🍃 Foliage / Growth

Produces glossy green leaves with attractive rusty-brown undersides. Large, creamy-white, fragrant flowers appear mainly from late spring through summer. Grows slowly to moderately with a compact, upright habit.

🪴 Potting Mix

Prefers fertile, well-draining, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. In Malta’s alkaline soils, use an ericaceous compost where appropriate and monitor for yellowing leaves.

🌿 Fertilizer

Apply a suitable fertilizer for acid-loving plants in spring, following the product instructions.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety

Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. However, eating large amounts of plant material may cause mild digestive upset.

🌬️ Air Purifying

As an evergreen tree, it helps capture airborne particles, provides shade and contributes to a greener garden environment.
