Description
💧 Watering
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots (2–3 times per week).
Once established, water moderately, about once a week in summer.
Drought-tolerant once mature, but consistent moisture encourages better fruiting.
☀️ Sunlight
Thrives in full sun, give at least 6 hours daily for good flowering and fruiting.
In Malta, can tolerate high summer heat but benefits from some afternoon shade in very exposed spots.
🍃 Foliage / 🌸 Flowering / 🍇 Fruiting
Deciduous shrub with slender branches and narrow green leaves.
Small purple flowers appear in spring to early summer, followed by bright red-orange berries.
Fruits ripen from late summer through autumn.
🪴 Potting Mix
Well-draining soil (loam mixed with sand or perlite).
Slightly alkaline to neutral pH preferred.
Avoid waterlogged or heavy clay soils.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring–summer with a balanced organic fertilizer.
Too much nitrogen encourages leaf growth but reduces fruiting.
