💧 Watering
The Paraguay Nightshade prefers consistent, average moisture. Water thoroughly whenever the top few centimeters of soil feel dry. While it can handle brief dry spells once established, letting it dry out completely will cause it to drop its flowers and leaves. During Malta’s peak summer heat, container-grown plants will be quite thirsty and may require daily watering to keep their intense blooming cycle going.

☀️ Light
It thrives best in full sun (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily). The more sunshine it receives, the denser its foliage will grow and the more intensely purple its flowers will be. It handles the blistering Maltese summer sun beautifully, though providing a location sheltered from harsh, drying winds will keep its arching branches looking pristine.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features soft, wavy, oval dark green leaves that remain on the plant year-round in Malta’s mild climate. It is a highly vigorous grower that naturally takes on a relaxed, arching shape. Pro Tip for your customers: It tolerates hard pruning exceptionally well. Advise them to give it a light trim after a heavy flush of blooms to maintain a tight, compact, and bushier shape.

🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a fertile, loamy, and well-draining potting mix. It isn’t overly picky about soil pH, making it highly compatible with standard mixes available locally. However, excellent drainage is critical to prevent root rot during the heavy winter rain downpours.

🌿 Fertilizer
Because it is a fast grower and a heavy bloomer, it is a hungry plant. Feed it every 4–6 weeks during the spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer, or use a high-potassium bloom booster to maximize the flower count.

❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
The Paraguay Nightshade is highly toxic to dogs, cats, and humans if ingested. As a member of the Solanaceae family, all parts of the plant (especially the round red berries that follow the flowers) contain toxic alkaloids. Ensure customers know to plant this out of reach of curious pets and children, and recommend wearing gloves when doing heavy pruning.

🌬️ Air Purifying
While primarily used outdoors to enhance curb appeal, its dense, fast-growing habit provides excellent structural screening. Furthermore, its continuous supply of lightly scented flowers serves as a fantastic haven for local pollinators, drawing in bees and butterflies all summer long.
