🪴 Planting Instructions
- When to plant: Autumn, once the weather and soil have cooled.
- Planting depth: Set each clove with its pointed tip approximately 2.5 cm below the soil surface.
- Spacing: Allow 15 cm between cloves and 30 cm between rows.
- Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil.
- Planting method: Separate the bulbs just before planting. Place each clove pointed end upwards, with the flat base down. For pots, choose containers at least 25 cm deep with drainage holes.
💧 Watering
Water during dry spells while plants are growing, particularly as bulbs develop. Avoid waterlogged soil and stop watering when bulbs mature and foliage yellows.

Choose an open, sunny spot. Keep surrounding weeds under control so they do not shade the plants.

Prepare the bed with well-rotted compost before planting.
🧺 Harvest & Storage
Lift bulbs carefully when the leaves turn yellow. Dry them thoroughly in an airy, sheltered place, avoiding excessive heat. Once dry, store somewhere cool and dry.

Autumn planting makes use of Malta’s cooler growing season. Garlic needs a cool period for good bulb development, so results may vary in particularly warm winters. Watch containers closely as spring weather becomes drier, and judge harvest readiness by the foliage rather than a fixed date.
