The Kalanchoe blossfeldiana ‘Variegata’ (often called ‘Tricolor’ or ‘Aurora’) is a striking variegated form of the popular Flaming Katy succulent. It is prized for its thick, scalloped foliage that features a “mosaic-like” blend of forest green, creamy white, and bubblegum pink.

Description

This variety is considered low-maintenance but requires specific conditions to maintain its variegation and health:

Light: Needs bright, indirect sunlight. While it loves light, direct hot afternoon sun can scorch the leaves. Variegation is most prominent with ample light.

Watering: Use the “soak and dry” method. Water deeply only when the top 2 inches of soil are completely dry. Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot.

Soil: Must be planted in well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Adding perlite or coarse sand can further improve drainage.

Temperature: Prefers warm environments between 60°F and 85°F (15°C–29°C). It is not frost-tolerant and should be brought indoors when temperatures dip below 50°F.
Reblooming: As a “short-day” plant, it requires approximately 14 hours of daily darkness for 6–11 weeks in the winter to trigger new flower buds.
