Description
Introduce a touch of exotic drama to your garden with the Peruvian Daffodil ‘Zwanenburg’. This award-winning variety is famous for its breathtaking, pure white flowers that look like a cross between a daffodil and a tropical orchid. Each bloom features a central cup surrounded by long, elegant, curling petals that give it its “Spider Lily” nickname. Best of all, they emit a divine, sweet citrus fragrance that fills the warm evening air.
Key Features for Malta:
Thrives in Heat: Unlike traditional daffodils, Ismene loves the warm Maltese sun and requires tropical-like warmth to bloom at its best.
Intoxicating Scent: Perfect for planting near a terrace or under a window where you can enjoy its powerful, sweet perfume.
Rapid Growth: Once planted in warm soil, these bulbs grow quickly, producing lush, strap-like green foliage followed by their spectacular flowers.
Pot & Border Versatility: They look stunning in large terracotta pots on a balcony or planted in groups in a sunny garden border.
Expert Planting Tips for our Customers:
Wait for Warmth: In Malta, plant these from March to May once the soil has warmed up significantly.
Sunshine is Key: Position in full sun to light shade. More sun usually results in stronger stems and better fragrance.
Planting Depth: Plant the bulbs with the “neck” or top of the bulb just at or slightly above the soil surface.
Watering: Water well during the growing season, but ensure the pot or soil has excellent drainage. They love moisture but hate “wet feet.”
Summer Care: After flowering, keep the leaves on the plant so it can store energy for next year. In Malta’s mild winters, the bulbs can often stay in the ground, but they prefer to be kept relatively dry during their dormant period.
Color: Pure White with a green throat.
Position: Full Sun to Partial Shade.
Hardiness: Tender Perennial (Perfect for Malta’s climate).
Bloom Time: May to August.
Height: 45 – 60 cm.
Fragrance: Highly scented.
