Description
Bring a touch of elegance and soft color to your outdoor space with the Pink Bearded Iris (Iris germanica). Known for its delicate, flamingo-pink petals and sophisticated “bearded” center, this perennial is a standout choice for romantic garden designs. These flowers are not just beautiful; they are incredibly tough and well-adapted to the warm Mediterranean climate.
Key Features for Malta:
Mediterranean Hardy: This variety thrives in the Maltese sun. Once the rhizomes are established, they are drought-tolerant and very low-maintenance.
Elegant Pastel Tones: The soft pink blooms provide a beautiful contrast to darker foliage or stone features in the garden.
Sturdy Architectural Form: Features tall, upright flower spikes and sword-shaped, grey-green leaves that look great all year round.
Naturalizing Growth: These aren’t temporary bulbs; they are permanent garden residents. The rhizomes spread over time, creating larger, more stunning floral displays each spring.
Expert Planting Tips for our Customers:
Don’t Bury the Rhizome: In Malta, it’s vital to plant the rhizome with its “back” slightly exposed to the sun. Covering it too deeply with soil can prevent the plant from flowering.
Sunshine is Essential: Choose a spot that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight. More sun equals more flowers!
Prevent Rot: Ensure the soil is well-draining. If you have heavy clay soil, mix in some sand or gravel to help water drain away from the rhizomes.
Space to Breathe: Plant rhizomes 30–45 cm apart. Good air circulation helps keep the plants healthy and gives them room to expand.
Watering: Water regularly after planting to help roots establish, but once the plant is settled, only water during very dry spells.
