Description
💧 Watering
Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy, as it will wilt dramatically when thirsty. In the heat of a Maltese summer, you may need to water more frequently to combat dry air.
☀️ Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light which keeps its spots vibrant and prevents “legginess.” Avoid direct midday sun, especially in summer, as the delicate leaves can scorch easily.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
This is a compact, bushy plant that grows relatively quickly. Regular pinching back of the stems is recommended to maintain its round shape and prevent it from becoming sparse.
🪴 Potting Mix
Use a high-quality, well-draining peat or coco-coir based mix. Adding a little perlite will help ensure the roots stay aerated while retaining necessary moisture.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer. Skip the feeding during the cooler winter months when growth naturally slows down.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
The Hypoestes is non-toxic to cats and dogs. It’s a safe way to add color to a home with curious furry friends.
However, be advised that the consumption of any plant material may cause vomiting and gastrointestinal upset for dogs and cats. Sherries will not be held accountable to any symptom. If you believe that your animal is ill or may have ingested a poisonous substance, please contact a vet immediately.
🌬️ Air Purifying
While primarily loved for its looks, it does contribute to cleaning indoor air. It helps filter out common household toxins while increasing local humidity through transpiration.
