Care Guide

☀️ Light:

Prefers bright indirect light or gentle morning sunlight. Protect from Malta’s intense summer afternoon sun, which can scorch the leaves and cause discolouration.

💧 Watering:

Water moderately during the growing season, allowing the compost to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering during winter and periods of extreme summer heat when growth may slow.

🌱 Soil:

Use a free-draining cactus and succulent compost with added pumice, perlite or mineral grit to ensure excellent drainage.

🌡 Temperature:

Best grown between 15–28°C. Protect from frost and prolonged temperatures below 5°C.

Mature plants may produce delicate white to pale green tubular flowers on long, slender stalks, usually during spring or summer. Although the flowers are relatively small, they provide an elegant contrast to the plant’s distinctive foliage.

Good to Know

The name truncata refers to the unusual flattened appearance of the leaves, which look as though their tips have been neatly cut off.

In its natural habitat, much of the plant grows partially buried beneath the soil, with only the flat leaf tips exposed. These translucent leaf windows allow sunlight to penetrate deeper into the leaves, helping the plant photosynthesise while reducing exposure to harsh sunlight and dry conditions.

Unlike most rosette-forming Haworthias, Haworthia truncata grows in two distinct rows, creating its characteristic fan-shaped appearance. This unusual growth habit makes it especially popular among collectors.
