Description

One of the most striking plants in the world, the Gloriosa Rothschildiana is a true showstopper. This exotic climber produces magnificent flowers with swept-back petals in fiery shades of red and yellow, resembling flickering flames. Packaged in a beautiful organza bag, these two high-quality tubers are ready to bring a touch of tropical drama to your Maltese garden or balcony.

Key Features for Malta:

Climbing Beauty: Unlike most lilies, the Flame Lily uses tendrils at the tips of its leaves to climb. It’s perfect for training up a small trellis, obelisk, or even along a balcony railing.

Sun Lover: This plant thrives in the Maltese sun! It loves the heat and will reward you with an abundance of “flaming” blooms throughout the summer.

Compact Growth: Reaching heights of about 1 meter, it is an ideal choice for large pots and containers on terrace gardens.

Exceptional Cut Flower: Its unique shape and vibrant colors make it one of the most sought-after flowers for high-end floral design.

Gift-Ready: The elegant organza packaging makes it an excellent “green” gift for birthdays or housewarmings.

Expert Tips for Growing Gloriosa in Malta:

Handling the Tubers: Be very careful when planting! The tubers are fragile. Plant them horizontally (flat), about 5-8 cm deep in well-draining potting soil.

Support Early: Provide a trellis or mesh as soon as you plant. The Flame Lily likes to start climbing the moment it sprouts.

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the growing season. In the peak of Malta’s summer, water in the early morning to keep the roots cool.

Feeding: Use a liquid potassium-rich fertilizer (like tomato food) every two weeks once the first flower buds appear to boost the intensity of the colors.

Winter Rest: After the plant dies back in autumn, stop watering completely. You can leave the tubers in the dry pot in a sheltered spot until next spring.
