Description
☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light. Unlike common geraniums, these “Regals” hate the scorching midday sun. In Malta, they do best on a shaded terrace or a spot that only gets morning sun.
💧 Watering
Regular but careful. Keep the soil moist but never soggy. They are very sensitive to overwatering, if the roots sit in water, the plant will rot quickly.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
The leaves are stiff, fan-shaped, and have a distinct “citrus” or “green” scent when touched. They grow in a more upright, woody shrub shape compared to trailing types.
🪴 Potting Mix
Use a well-draining, gritty mix. A standard potting soil with extra perlite or sand works perfectly for the Maltese climate.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a high-potassium fertilizer (like rose or tomato food) every 2 weeks in spring. This is essential for those huge, bicoloured “Grandiflorum” blooms.
❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Toxic. Like all Pelargoniums, they can cause skin irritation or vomiting in cats and dogs.
