Description
Fill your garden with the legendary fragrance of our Double-Flowered Freesia Mix. This special variety offers a more luxurious look than the standard single freesia, with extra layers of silky petals creating full, voluminous blooms. This value pack of 50 bulbs provides a rainbow of colors—including white, yellow, pink, purple, and red—ensuring a vibrant display that delights both the eyes and the nose.
Key Features for Malta:
Unbeatable Fragrance: Freesias are world-renowned for their sweet, peppery scent. Planting a cluster near a door or window will perfume your entire terrace.
Sun Loving: These bulbs thrive in the high light levels of Malta.
Compact & Tidy: Reaching a height of 20–40 cm, they are perfect for the front of flower borders or for “stuffing” into pots alongside other plants.
Prolific Bloomer: Each bulb produces a “comb” of flowers that open one by one, providing a long-lasting display from late spring through summer.
Expert Planting Tips for our Customers:
Mass Planting: For the best visual impact and scent “cloud,” plant these in groups of 10 to 15 bulbs.
Planting Depth: Plant the bulbs (corms) about 5 cm deep with the pointed end facing up. Space them about 5–8 cm apart.
Watering: Keep the soil moist but not soggy. In Malta’s heat, a layer of mulch on top of the soil helps keep the bulbs cool.
Support: Because the double flowers can be a bit heavier than singles, a few small twigs pushed into the soil around the cluster can help keep the stems upright.
Indoor Fragrance: These are world-class cut flowers. Snip the stems when the first flower on the “comb” is just beginning to open; they will continue to open in the vase and fill your room with scent.
Position: Full Sun.
Hardiness: Perennial (Freesias often naturalize well in Malta, coming back year after year if left in the ground).
Soil: Light, well-drained soil is essential.
