Description
☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light. It loves a spot near a window but hates direct, scorching Maltese sun through glass, which can burn its leaves. If the light is too low, it will start dropping leaves rapidly.
💧 Watering
Moderate. Water when the top 2-3cm of soil feels dry.
The Golden Rule: It hates “wet feet.” Ensure the pot drains perfectly. In a humid Maltese winter, you can cut back watering significantly.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
It has elegant, drooping branches with glossy, pointed leaves. It can grow into a large indoor tree (up to 2 meters+), but you can easily prune it to keep it small and bushy.
🪴 Potting Mix
Use a well-draining, soil-based potting mix. A standard indoor mix with some perlite added is perfect for the Maltese climate.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Do not feed in winter when the plant is resting.
❌🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Toxic. The sap (latex) is an irritant. It can cause skin irritation or stomach upset if pets chew the leaves.
