Description
Light: The Banyan tree prefers bright, indirect sunlight, but can also tolerate some shade. Avoid exposing the plant to direct sunlight, as this can scorch its leaves.
Water: Water the plant thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. In winter, reduce watering frequency to prevent waterlogging.
Soil: Ficus benghalensis prefers well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Use a potting mix that is formulated for tropical plants, or make your own by mixing equal parts of peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite.
Temperature and Humidity: This plant prefers warm temperatures between 15°C to 24°C. It also prefers high humidity, so consider using a humidifier or placing a tray of water near the plant.
Fertiliser: Ficus benghalensis benefits from regular fertilisation during the growing season. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every two weeks, or a slow-release fertiliser every six months.
Pruning: Prune the plant regularly to control its size and shape. Ficus benghalensis can grow quite large, so consider pruning it back in the spring to promote bushier growth.
Repotting: Repot the plant every two to three years, or when the roots have outgrown the pot. Use a slightly larger pot and fresh potting mix.
