Euphorbia milii (commonly known as Crown of Thorns) is a succulent shrub admired for its bright, long-lasting flowers and tolerance to heat and drought. It thrives outdoors in Malta’s sunny, Mediterranean climate and makes a dramatic potted plant.

Description

💧 Watering

Water moderately, once every 7–10 days in summer.
Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry between waterings.
In winter, water sparingly; avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.

☀️ Sunlight

Prefers full sun for abundant flowering.
Can tolerate light shade, but flowers may be reduced.
Perfect for Malta’s bright balconies, terraces, and gardens.

Evergreen succulent with spiny stems and glossy green leaves.
Produces bright red, pink, yellow, or white bracts year-round under good conditions.
Flowers are long-lasting and attract pollinators.

🪴 Potting Mix

Well-draining succulent or cactus soil mix.
Add sand or perlite for extra drainage.
Ensure pot has drainage holes.

🌿 Fertilizer

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring–summer with a low-nitrogen, bloom-boosting fertilizer.
No feeding needed in winter.

Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested; causes oral irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Sap can irritate skin and eyes. Wear gloves when handling.
