Description

Elevate your garden with the unpredictable beauty of Dahlia ‘Marble Ball’. This extraordinary Pompon dahlia is a true work of art, featuring perfectly spherical blooms with a “marbled” effect. Every flower is a surprise: ivory-white petals are splashed, streaked, and speckled with rich purple-red tones. Because the markings are random, no two blooms on the plant are ever exactly alike!

Key Features for Malta:

One-of-a-Kind Pattern: The striking contrast between the white and purple makes it an instant focal point in garden beds or containers.

Compact & Sturdy: Reaching a height of about 60cm, it is more compact than many other varieties, making it ideal for smaller Maltese balconies and windy terraces.

Prolific Bloomer: Produces a high volume of small, intricate “ball” flowers throughout the entire summer and into the mild Maltese autumn.

Designer Cut Flower: Floral designers love this variety for its artistic, bi-color look, which adds texture and interest to bouquets.

Expert Tips for Growing ‘Marble Ball’ in Malta: To get the most dramatic marbling:

Consistent Sun: This variety needs full sun to develop the deep purple-red pigment. In Malta, at least 6 hours of direct light is essential.

Container Gardening: Because of its shorter stature (approx. 60cm), it performs excellently in pots. Ensure you use a high-quality potting mix with extra perlite to help drainage during the humid summer months.

Heat Management: While it loves the heat, a thick layer of mulch (like bark or straw) around the base of the plant will help keep the roots cool during a Maltese heatwave.

Regular Deadheading: To keep the “marble” show going until October, snip off faded flowers regularly. This directs the plant’s energy into making new, colorful buds.

Wind Protection: Though shorter and sturdier, its heavy flower heads can benefit from a sheltered spot away from the direct “Majjistral” wind.

Color: White with Purple-Red streaks/marbling.

Bloom Time: July – October.

Height: 60 cm.

Season: Summer Bloomer.
