Mediterranean Resilience: Like the Cactus variety, Decorative Dahlias thrive in the Maltese sun. This mix is selected for its vigorous growth and ability to bounce back quickly after the heat of the day.

Height: Growing to 60–80 cm, these are ideal for the middle of a flower border or as a lush, leafy display in large terrace pots.

Expert Planting Tips for our Customers:

Sun & Soil: Plant in a spot that gets at least 6 hours of sun. Use a high-quality potting mix if planting in containers; for garden beds, mix in some aged manure or compost to give them the nutrients they crave.

Planting Time: Best planted from March to May in Malta to establish roots before the intense July heat.

Watering Trick: In Malta’s peak summer, water in the early morning at the base of the plant. Avoid wetting the leaves to prevent powdery mildew.

“Pinching” for More Flowers: When the plant is about 20 cm tall, pinch out the very top growing tip. This encourages the plant to branch out, resulting in a bushier plant with twice as many flowers!

Fertilizing: Dahlias are heavy feeders. Use a potassium-rich fertilizer (like tomato food) every 2 weeks once you see the first flower buds forming.

Position: Full Sun (Best) / Light Partial Shade.

Hardiness: Perennial in Malta (Generally safe to leave in the ground during winter if the soil doesn’t stay waterlogged).
