💧 Watering
Requires consistent moisture; water when the top 3–5 cm of soil feels dry, typically every 4–7 days in summer. In the intense Maltese heat, do not let the root ball dry out completely, as this can cause the fronds to brown and crisp.
☀️ Light
Thrives in very bright, indirect light or even filtered full sun, which is essential for healthy growth. Indoors, place it near a large south or west-facing window, but provide some light shading during the peak of a Maltese summer afternoon.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Features long, graceful, dark green fronds that have a delicate, “plumose” (feathery) appearance. It is a relatively fast grower for a palm and will eventually require significant vertical space as it matures.

🪴 Potting Mix
Requires a rich, well-draining potting soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Adding a good amount of perlite or sand is important to ensure the heavy watering doesn’t lead to stagnant, waterlogged roots.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed with a specialized palm fertilizer once a month from spring through autumn. Since Maltese soil and water are naturally alkaline, a fertilizer containing manganese and iron is vital to prevent yellowing leaves (chlorosis).
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
The Queen Palm is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe and grand addition to a pet-friendly home. However, its large fronds may be tempting for cats to bat at, so ensure the pot is stable.
However, be advised that the consumption of any plant material may cause vomiting and gastrointestinal upset for dogs and cats. Sherries will not be held accountable to any symptom. If you believe that your animal is ill or may have ingested a poisonous substance, please contact a vet immediately.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Like most large palms, it is an excellent air purifier and a natural humidifier. It is particularly effective at removing indoor toxins like carbon monoxide and formaldehyde while pumping out fresh oxygen.
