Known as the Mediterranean Dwarf Palm or European Fan Palm. A hardy, slow-growing palm perfectly suited to Malta’s hot, dry climate. It’s ideal for gardens, terraces, and coastal landscapes.

Description

💧 Watering
Water once a week during the first year to help roots establish.
Once mature, highly drought-tolerant. Water only during prolonged dry periods.
Avoid overwatering; prefers slightly dry soil.

Thrives in full sun but tolerates partial shade.
Perfect for Malta’s coastal and sunny gardens.

🍃 Foliage / 🌸 Flowering
Evergreen palm with fan-shaped blue-green or silvery leaves.
Produces small yellow flowers in spring, followed by decorative fruits.
Grows as a multi-stemmed shrub or small palm tree, up to 2–3 m.

🪴 Potting Mix
Well-draining sandy or loamy soil.
In pots, use a Mediterranean mix (soil + sand + perlite).

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed once in spring and again in mid-summer with a slow-release palm fertilizer.
Avoid over-fertilizing, this palm prefers lean soil.
