Whether planted in modern ceramic pots or used as a striking addition to a Mediterranean garden bed, its sculptural silhouette and mysterious color make it a favorite for both garden enthusiasts and floral designers.

Key Features for Malta:

Deepest Dark Hue: Produces stunning, trumpet-shaped flowers in a shade so dark it appears black, contrasting beautifully with its lush, green, arrow-shaped foliage.

Thrives in Maltese Heat: Originally from South Africa, Zantedeschia is well-suited to the warm Maltese climate, performing excellently through the summer months.

Versatile Growth: Ideal for decorative containers on balconies and terraces, or as an exotic focal point in well-drained garden borders.

Premium Cut Flower: One of the most long-lasting and sought-after flowers for elegant home floral arrangements.

Symbol of Sophistication: Represents beauty and transformation, perfect for creating a “gothic” or modern chic garden aesthetic.

Expert Tips for Growing Calla Lilies in Malta:

Light & Heat: Plant in a spot that receives full sun to partial shade. In Malta’s peak summer, a location with bright morning sun and afternoon shade will help the flowers last longer and maintain their deep color.

Planting Depth: Plant the tubers about 7–10 cm deep with the “eyes” (growing points) facing upwards.

Watering Strategy: Callas love moisture. Keep the soil consistently damp during their growing and flowering season. In pots, ensure they never completely dry out during the heat of July and August.

Well-Draining Soil: While they love water, they don’t like “wet feet.” Use a high-quality potting mix that drains well to avoid tuber rot.

Caution: Please note that Calla Lilies are toxic if ingested. Keep them out of reach of pets and small children.

Color: Velvety Dark Purple/Black.

Bloom Time: July – October.

Height: 20 – 39 cm.
