The kiwano has a fresh sweet taste and resembles a combination of lemon and banana. The pulp is used in fruit salads and desserts. Sow from March-April in pots at 22-25º C, plant out after about 4 weeks in a hobby greenhouse. The plant must be tied up. The female flowers, which are easy to recognize because there is already an ovary underneath, should preferably be pollinated by hand.
