Description

Bougainvillea is a popular flowering plant that is known for its vibrant colors and hardy nature. With our Mediterranean climate, hot summers and cool winters, Our island makes an ideal location for growing bougainvillea. These plants thrive in warm temperatures and well-drained soil.

Sunlight: Requires full sun (6 to 8 hours daily). Place it in your brightest, sunniest spot to maximize flowering.

Watering: Water deeply once or twice a week during summer. Let the topsoil dry out slightly between waterings, as the plant is drought-tolerant and dislikes soggy roots. Reduce watering significantly in the winter.

Soil & Potting: Thrives in well-draining, sandy, or loamy potting mix. Bougainvilleas actually bloom better when they are slightly rootbound.

Pruning: Prune after flowering in late winter or early spring to remove dead branches and promote bushy, new growth.

Safety & Support: Requires a sturdy trellis or support for the vine to climb. Note that it is mildly toxic to pets and has thorns.
