Description
Create a spectacular “waterfall of color” on your patio with our Begonia Pendula Pink. This variety is specially loved for its arching stems and abundant, ruffled double blooms in a soft candy-pink. Unlike upright begonias, these are designed to spill over the edges of containers, making them the gold standard for hanging baskets and elevated window boxes.
Key Features for Malta:
Heat Management: While Begonias love warmth, the Maltese midday sun can be too harsh. For the best results, place these where they will receive bright morning light and afternoon shade.
Bloom Time: Long-flowering from June through October. In Malta, they provide consistent color during the months when many other garden plants struggle with the heat.
Growth Habit: A graceful trailing habit, reaching 30–40 cm in length.
Humidity: They appreciate the humidity of coastal areas but benefit from regular misting if the air becomes exceptionally dry during a “scirocco” wind.
Expert Planting Tips for our Customers:
Which Way Up?: Begonia tubers have a unique “cup” or “hollow” side. Always plant them with the hollow side facing up.
Planting Depth: Do not bury them deep! Cover with only 2–3 cm of soil. If planted too deep, the tuber may rot.
Watering Strategy: Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Crucial Tip: Avoid getting water directly on the leaves or in the center of the tuber “cup,” as this can cause rot. Water at the base of the plant.
Feeding: Begonias are “hungry” plants. For the biggest cascades of flowers, use a high-potash liquid fertilizer (like tomato food) every 2 weeks once they start blooming.
Position: Partial Shade / Filtered Sun (Avoid direct afternoon sun in Malta).
Hardiness: Tender (Will thrive in Malta’s summer but needs a dry rest in winter).
Soil: Rich, well-draining potting mix with added perlite or grit.
