Description

💧 Watering
Keep the potting mix lightly moist, allowing the top 2–3cm of soil to dry slightly between waterings. During Malta’s warm summer months, check the soil regularly, but avoid overwatering as begonias are susceptible to root rot. Reduce watering during winter.

☀️ Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light or light shade. Avoid direct sunlight, particularly during Malta’s intense summer afternoons, as it can scorch the delicate foliage and fade its beautiful silver colouring.

🍃 Foliage / Growth
This compact, bushy begonia is grown primarily for its striking ornamental foliage rather than its flowers. Under the right conditions, it forms a dense mound of colourful leaves, making it ideal for indoor displays and shaded outdoor areas. Remove damaged or ageing leaves to encourage healthy new growth.

🪴 Potting Mix
Use a light, fertile, well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. Adding perlite or orchid bark will improve drainage and airflow around the roots, helping to prevent root diseases.

🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 3–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Begonias are toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. The tubers and roots contain the highest concentration of irritating compounds, which may cause vomiting and mouth irritation. Keep the plant out of reach of pets.
