Astrophytum myriostigma, commonly known as the Bishop’s Cap Cactus or Bishop’s Hat, is a spineless, star-shaped cactus native to the highlands of northeastern and central Mexico. It is highly prized by collectors for its geometric symmetry and unique appearance, which resembles a bishop’s mitre.

Description

Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light or light shade. While mature plants can tolerate full sun, young specimens are sensitive and can easily sunburn.

Watering: Use the “soak and dry” method. Water thoroughly during the growing season (spring and summer) only when the soil has completely dried out. Keep perfectly dry in winter to prevent root rot, as the plant is highly sensitive to excess moisture during dormancy.

Soil: Requires exceptionally well-draining soil. A gritty cactus mix with a high mineral content, such as 70-80% pumice, perlite, or coarse sand mixed with a little organic matter, is ideal.
