Description
Asparagus meyeri, commonly known as Foxtail Fern, is an attractive evergreen perennial with soft-looking, feathery green foliage arranged in dense, upright plumes. Its elegant appearance makes it ideal for decorative pots, borders, and shaded garden areas.
💧 Watering
Water moderately, allowing the top layer of soil to dry between waterings. Established plants tolerate short dry periods but benefit from regular watering during Malta’s hot summers.
☀️ Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to partial shade. Outdoors in Malta, morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
Produces dense, bushy, fox-tail-shaped plumes of fine green foliage. Small white flowers may develop into red berries. Remove old or yellowing stems to maintain its appearance.
🪴 Potting Mix
Use fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Suitable for containers and garden beds with good drainage.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer. Reduce feeding in winter.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Toxic to cats and dogs. The berries can cause digestive upset if eaten, while contact with the foliage may cause skin irritation.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Primarily valued for its decorative foliage rather than proven air-purifying properties.
