Description
💧 Watering
Water when the top 2–3cm of soil feels dry, keeping the potting mix lightly moist but never soggy. During Malta’s warm summer months, the plant may require more frequent watering. Reduce watering in winter, but never allow the soil to dry out completely.
☀️ Light
Anthurium grows best in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, particularly during Malta’s intense summer afternoons, as it can scorch the leaves and flowers.
🍃 Foliage / Growth
This compact evergreen produces glossy, dark green leaves and striking, long-lasting flowers throughout much of the year under the right conditions. Remove faded flowers and yellowing leaves to encourage healthy growth and continuous blooming.
🪴 Potting Mix
Use a light, well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter, ideally containing orchid bark, perlite, and peat-free compost. Good drainage and airflow around the roots are essential.
🌿 Fertilizer
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength or one formulated for flowering houseplants. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter.
🐕🐈 Pet Safety
Anthurium is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested, as it contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. Keep the plant out of reach of pets and young children.
🌬️ Air Purifying
Anthurium is regarded as a good indoor air-purifying plant. Its lush foliage can help improve indoor air quality while adding a fresh, tropical feel to any living or working space.
