🌷 Allium Bulgaricum – 10 Bulbs

Add height and charm to your garden with Allium Bulgaricum, also known as Bulgarian Honey Garlic. Its tall stems carry clusters of gently drooping, bell-shaped flowers in cream, dusky pink and green. After flowering, the seed heads turn upwards, extending the plant’s decorative appeal.

🪴 Planting Instructions

• When to plant: Autumn, once the weather and soil begin to cool
• Planting depth: Approximately 5cm deep, following RHS guidance; use the packet’s instructions if different.
• Spacing: Approximately 25cm apart
• Soil: Well-drained soil. For pots, use a free-draining potting mix and a large container with drainage holes.
• Planting method: Place bulbs with their pointed ends facing upwards, cover with soil and water if dry. Plant in groups for a fuller display.

💧 Watering

Water after planting if the soil is dry. During active growth, water as needed to keep the soil lightly moist without leaving it waterlogged. Reduce watering as the foliage dies back and keep dormant bulbs relatively dry during summer.

☀️ Light & Position

Choose a sunny or partially shaded position with good drainage. Some shelter from strong winds helps protect the tall flower stems. In Malta, light afternoon shade can be useful in particularly hot locations.

🌿 Feeding

In pots, apply a potassium-rich liquid fertilizer during active growth, following the product instructions. Stop feeding once the foliage begins to yellow.

🍃 After Flowering

Leave the seed heads for decoration, or remove them before the seeds ripen to limit self-seeding. Allow the leaves to yellow and dry naturally before removing them.

Leave bulbs undisturbed where possible, as established clumps flower best without frequent lifting.

Plant during cooler autumn weather and provide good drainage during winter rain. Avoid frequent summer irrigation around dormant bulbs.

Plant among other border plants to help conceal the fading foliage while the tall flower stems remain on display.

Toxic to cats and dogs if eaten. Keep bulbs and plants away from pets that chew plants or dig in the soil.
